【シドニーＡＦＰ＝時事】南太平洋のパプアニューギニアで、淡水ガメの新種が発見された。
ニューギニア島の地質学的形成過程に最初から立ち会ってきた種に属すという。
　分類学の国際学術誌「Ｚｏｏｔａｘａ」に最近掲載された論文よると、
発見されたのは、ニューギニア島全体でみられる３種の遠縁種のうちの、
学名「Ｅｌｓｅｙａ　ｒｈｏｄｉｎｉ」と名付けられたカメの新種。
　１６日、論文の主著者である豪キャンベラ大学のアーサー・ジョージズ氏は
「３種は１７００~１９００万年前の共通の祖先から進化した。
その時期は非常に重要で、驚くことにこのカメたちは一緒に、
ニューギニア島の地質発達過程をすべて見てきたことになる」と語った。
同氏によれば、新種は「非常に可愛らしいカメ」で、赤みがかった色が特徴だという。
　山がちな熱帯のパプアニューギニアは生物多様性に富むことで知られているが、
遠隔地域の多くは比較的調査されていない。

外務省では，在パプアニューギニア日本国大使館における広報文化分野に関し，
以下の要領にて選考による職員の任期期限（2年）付き臨時募集を行います。
1　採用期間
　平成28年5月18日（水曜日）から平成30年5月17日（木曜日）までの2年間（予定）
2　職務内容及び待遇
　常勤の国家公務員として採用され，採用後は，
　在パプアニューギニア日本国大使館における広報文化分野の担当官として，
　採用期間を通じて，在パプアニューギニア日本国大使館（パプアニューギニア・ポートモレスビー）
　に勤務します。
　給与及び諸手当は「一般職の職員の給与に関する法律」の規定に基づき，
　各人のこれまでの経歴に則した格付けを行った後に決定され，支給されます。
3　採用予定者　　　　1名
4　応募資格
（1）大学卒業後，9年を経過している者。
（2）非営利団体，企業等において，海外における遺骨収集や慰霊事業の分野での
　　　勤務経験を有すること，あるいは海外における日本からの訪問客の受け入れ、
　　　外国政府や関係者との折衝や共同調査・事業等を行った経験を十分に（通算4年程度）
　　　有すること。
（3）パプアニューギニアを含む太平洋諸国における勤務経験を有することが望ましい。
（4）一定水準の英語の語学力を有すること。
（5）当該採用期間にわたり継続して勤務が可能なこと。
（6）日本国籍を有し，外国籍を有しないこと。

The Japanese Ambassador to PNG his Excellency, Morio Matsumoto,
was in Lae for two days to inspect projects that involved the Japanese Government.
On Tuesday 9th, the Japanese Ambassador's visit to Lae was spent at the Markham Bridge.
It had been rehabilitated over eight years using Japanese technical expertise
and 40 million kina of aid.
"Even after about ten years, the bridge is still here,
" said His Excellency Ambassador Matsumoto whilst on the Bridge inspecting.
Floods destroyed four pillars in 2004. In 2005 Japanese studies showed faults in four pillars.
They were fixed the pillars in 2011.
"The bridge is vital. It serves villages in Huon, Bulolo and Menyamya districts.
It also links the Wafi Gold mine, Zenag and other businesses to Lae city,"
said Provincial Works Manager, Kingsford Kassen.
An average of about 400 vehicles pass over the bridge every day.
From the Markham Bridge, the Ambassador travelled to the Bukawa road pilot site.
A pilot program with Japanese funded machinery and technical assistance from Japanese Engineers.
"We had to help the Papua New Guinean Engineers to assist them to develop their own abilities
to make better roads," said his Excellency Ambassador Matsumoto whilst speaking to students
and Provincial works personnel along the Bukawa road.
Provincial Works Manager, Kingsford Kassen, and his engineers have had the opportunity
to work with Japanese experts.
"Over the years we had downgraded our capacity Japan through JICA has come to assist us
in building the capacity with the resources and also technical assistance,"
said Provincial Works Manager, Kingsford Kassen.
At the Lae district office, JICA has a group of experts in urban development,
Social Welfare, Finance and Engineering developing the Lae-Nadzab Urban development plans.
Yesterday, the Ambassador and his delegation met at the PNG Power Office in Lae
to get an update on the Ramu Transmission system re-inforcement project
and the power system development master plan.
Ambassador Matsumoto was also taken on a tour of the Taraka Substation by PNG Power personnel.

The Japan Day Celebration Festival was held  at the Don Bosco Technical Institute
Taurama Campus in Port Moresby, which was hosted by the Japanese Embassy along with
Japanese business houses and the small Japanese community living and working in Port Moresby.
Ambassador of Japan to PNG His Excellency Morio Matsumoto said
"The initiative behind the Japan day festival is to showcase Japanese culture and traditions
and also to strengthen relationships between Japan and PNG,
the general public are invited to learn and be educated in some of Japans proud traditions
where workshops will be held like the art of Ikebana which is the art of floral arrangements
and Origami the art of folding paper and a special Koto performance by the Japanese Embassy".
The Japan Day Festival marks the second of its kind in Port Moresby
and also present was Japanese companies such as Ela Motors who sold fresh vegetables
with proceeds to be given to charities in Port Moresby and Daikoku restaurant
which featured some unique Japanese cuisine in Takoyaki which is a ball-shaped Japanese snack
made of a wheat flour-based batter and cooked in a special takoyaki pan which was filled with octopus.

　《零戦復活　日本の空舞う》－。そんな見出しの記事がカラー写真とともに、
１月２８日付の産経新聞３面に掲載されていました。記事を読むと、
この零戦の機体は昭和４０年代中頃、パプアニューギニアのジャングルで発見され、
復元後はニュージーランド在住の日本人が所有し、晴れて日本の空を舞うに
至った経緯が紹介されています。
　零戦は、日本海軍の主力戦闘機として傑出した航続距離を誇り、
抜群の旋回性能で戦闘能力にも長じた傑作です。
ジブリ製作のアニメ「風立ちぬ」のモデルになった郷土群馬出身の堀越二郎が
設計した機体としても有名です。
また、関連書籍は写真集をはじめ実録戦記物に至るまで数多く出版されています。
　今も尽きぬ興味と関心。その背景には、零戦の持つ機能的な優美さに
日本人としての美意識が喚起され、大空を飛翔（ひしょう）したいという人々の
願望もあるように私には思えてなりません。
　今回、復元された零戦が日本人所有のもとで日本の空を飛行したことは
戦後７１年にしてかなった画期的出来事です。
国内の博物館などには復元された別の零戦が展示されていますが、
飛行可能な機体はありません。
今回の機体は、「飛べる零戦」として大きな価値があります。

Eco tourism is a booming economic sector in Papua New Guinea
that can certainly boost the economy of the country.
To boost and provide a new experience of Port Moresby to visitors
both within and abroad,
a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between
the Conservation and Environment Protection Authority,
the Papua New Guinea Tourism Promotion Authority,
the Pacific Adventist University and the Koiari Local Level Government
in Port Moresby, for the implementation of a bird watching project.
Bird watching is a new project and this signed agreement will see
the implementation of the project in the Variarata National Park,
Pacific Adventist University campus and the Sirinumu and Laloki catchment areas.
The project aims to promote bird watching activities in Papua New Guinea,
especially Port Moresby, in order to provide a new feel and attraction
 to visitors both local and from abroad.
As part of biodiversity conservation through the PNG policy on Protected Area,
the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with the Conservation
and Environment Protection Authority will implement the bird watching project.
CEPA Project Coordinator with CEPA/JICA Project for biodiversity conservation
Fredrick Ohmana said the implemented initiative will give all residents
 and visitors to Port Moresby a new experience of the unique biodiversity
that can be seen here in PNG.

　【室蘭】パプアニューギニアのガブリエル・ドゥサバ駐日大使は２４日、
２０２０年東京五輪・パラリンピックに向けた同国選手団の事前合宿地について
「気候が良く、温泉も近い室蘭は最高の候補の一つ」と前向きに検討する考えを示した。
　東京都内のホテルで行われた栗林和徳・栗林商会社長の名誉領事就任式典の記者会見で語った。
　大使は１２年ロンドン五輪では８人だった選手団について「東京五輪は選手１００人を送りたい。
スタッフを含め３００人規模になる」と説明、「宮崎も合宿候補地に挙がっているが、
私は２年前に室蘭と登別を訪れ、環境の良さを確認している」と語った。
同席した栗林氏は「涼しい室蘭で合宿すると好成績が出ますよ」と売り込んだ。

◎　Air Niugini uplifts Fiji relief supplies 　（2016.2.26, PNG Today)

Air Niugini today uplifted part of the total 4.5 tone relief supplies
donated by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) from Port Moresby to Fiji,
for the people affected by cyclone, Winston.
The relief supplies in 225 boxes containing mattresses, tents and plastic rolls
were donated by JICA in Singapore. Air Niugini uplifted the supplies
from Singapore to Port Moresby yesterday and now to Nadi, Fiji.
Since cyclone Winston swept through Fiji over the weekend,
several deaths were recorded, thousands of people made homeless
and millions of dollars' worth of damage done to properties and infrastructure.
PX 084 departed Port Moresby at 10am; it should arrive at Nadi airport by 4:10pm.
This flight goes via Honiara, Solomon Islands.
Air Niugini operates three weekly flights to Nadi via Honiara every Sunday,
 Wednesday and Friday.

The man who was given the privilege of taking away and eating kings of Tonga's fonos
or food served with kava during special royal ceremonies
died in his Sopu residence on Sunday 21 after he lost his battle with cancer.
Masa and his family were not alone.
Their Majesties King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau'u attended
a private royal prayer service at the consular house to pay their tribute to the deceased.
The sacred practice of kaifono allows only foreigners to take away
and eat His Majesty's fono given that the current king has no fahu
or paternal aunt in Tonga to serve such cultural duty and privilege.
Masa's last kaifono was believed to have been during His Majesty King Tupou VI'
s coronation celebration last year.
During the national royal event at Pangai Lahi he was seen escorted
to the pangai (kava circle) where he hit the fono with his hand indicating
to the king's herald Motu'apuaka that he was the kaifono
and he was there to take the royal fono away.
He was also Late King George V's kaifono.

The former Japanese volunteer to Tonga during 1970s through JICA
 (Japan International Cooperation Agency) is survived by three sons and grandchildren.
A photo of two of his grandchildren in black clothes and taʻovalas
was posted to Facebook in memory of Masa.
The caption under the photo inferred how his Japanese family appreciated
the duty Masa was given to serve in Tonga for the royal family
in which they said it "incorporate both heritages".

　南太平洋パプアニューギニアのガブリエル・ドゥサバ駐日大使は２６日、
太陽光発電会社「Ｇテクノ」（本社・豊川市）が運営する新城市や蒲郡市内の太陽光発電施設を視察した。
　同国は石油や天然ガスに恵まれているものの、６００以上の島々に分かれ、
国民約８００万人のうち地方に住む約８割が電気のない生活をしている。
このため、小規模な施設でも稼働できる再生可能エネルギーが必要という。
　Ｇテクノは、鉄製のくいを打ち込むだけで基礎コンクリートを使わずソーラーパネルを設置する
「かかし型」工法を提唱。
同社の都相太（トサンテ）会長（７４）が、廃棄処分まで考えてある環境面やコストの優位性を説明した。
この工法は、パネルを地面から高い位置に設置できる。
ドゥサバ大使は「パネル下の空間を有効活用できそうだ」と関心を示していた。【吉富裕倫】
