◎ CPL PNG Lewas begin with a perfect start in Japan (2017.4.30、EMTV)
http://www.emtv.com.pg/sport/2017/04/cpl-png-lewas-hit-off-with-a-perfect-start/

It was a perfect start for the CPL PNG Lewas on Friday in Japan against Vanuatu
in their ICC Women's World T20 East Asia Pacific (EAP) Qualifier campaign.

The nine wicket victory comes as Papua New Guinea showed
why it is the dominant force in the region.

Batting first, Vanuatu quickly succumbed to strong PNG bowlers
in the likes of Ravini Oa, Sibona Jimmy and Kaia Arua.

Oa put forward impressive bowls, that ousted 4 Vanuatu wickets in just 14 runs
which got the Lewas on top of the game right from the start.

Vanuatu's Alvin Chillia, showed some fight with 25 runs in 35 balls;
but that was all she could acquire before she was sent off.

Vanuatu settled for only 80 runs after 19.5 overs.

The Lewas replied without any hindrance.

The 81- run chase was settled in just under 11 overs.

They only lost one wicket during the chase.

Pauke Siaka, once again, got the player of match award with an impressive 31 runs
in five overs to her name.

The Lewas are currently playing against host Japan.

◎ Improve Resource Revenue Management (2017.5.2、EMTV)

http://www.emtv.com.pg/news/2017/05/improve-resource-revenue-management/

Papua New Guinea's reputation as a country built on the extractive resource sector
has been on the increase in recent years.

There are however, issues within the sector that need drastic improvement.

One of these areas is the management of revenue derived from the extractive resource industries.

For the department of Petroleum & Energy, although the department is responsible for
extremely important revenue source,
its own recording systems leave a lot to be desired - these have been highlighted
in both PNG's EITI Country reports (2013 and 2014).

Much of this has been blamed on the lack of capacity within DPE.

But there is optimism that this will change.

The Government of Japan, through its international development agency, JICA,
will soon be commencing a technical program to address this issue over the next three years.

Immediately following the conclusion of the 2017 National General Elections,
JICA will work together with PNGEITI to build the capacities of core government agencies
responsible for managing revenue coming into the country through the extractive resource sector.

Of immediate priority will be the systems and processes within DPE.

According to Takashi Toyama, JICA's Chief Representative in PNG,
this Technical Cooperation project is the first that JICA is embarking on within the EITI space:

"...supporting EITI in Papua New Guinea is JICA's first global experience
and exposure supporting this new global initiative.
And I am excited to state that PNG was chosen as the first EITI candidate country
for JICA's technical cooperation support.
We look forward to the successful implementation of this project."

Prime Minister Peter O'Neill has thanked Japan for its ongoing partnership
with Papua New Guinea across a range of sectors
that is enhancing the country's technical capacity in agriculture, education and healthcare.

PM O'Neill made these comments when receiving the credentials of Japan's
new Ambassador to Papua New Guinea Satoshi Nakajima, in Port Moresby on Monday (8 May).

During the discussion, the Prime Minister said trade and investment with Japan
continues to grow and this is delivering results for both countries.

"Japanese investment in Papua New Guinea continues to expand,
and we are seeing a lot of potential for further investment in the resources sector,"
the Prime Minister said.

"Japan is a foundation customer of the PNG-LNG project, and with our second LNG project being initiated,
Japan is interested in purchasing additional supplies.

"This works for both countries in creating a secure market for Papua New Guinea,
and provides Japan with reliable and high quality energy to power homes and businesses."

PM O'Neill thanked Japan for ongoing development support to Papua New Guinea,
particularly through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA),
that he said is improving infrastructure and raising skills in vital sectors.

"Working with Japan, we are rebuilding the terminal at Nadzab Airport to an international standard,
improving water and sewage capacity in Port Moresby and providing enhanced training
and skills development for our Government officials.

"Japan is also very active in working with the Government
to improve infrastructure in rural and remote areas and this is having a great impact
on improving lives around the country.

"There are also a number of volunteers from Japan working in sectors
such as agriculture, education, health and information technology,
and living in our communities."

Ambassador Nakajima further conveyed the regards of Japan's Prime Minister, H.E. Shinzo Abe,
to Papua New Guinea and said he is looking forward to attending the APEC Leaders' Summit
in Port Moresby in November 2018.

"APEC provides an opportunity to showcase the development that is taking place in our country,
and to increase our capacity in sectors that are important for our economy.

"This includes expanding technical capacity in agriculture and fisheries,
improving transport and supply chains and being able to better protect Papua New Guinea's
intellectual property.

"We thank Japan for its support to APEC Papua New Guinea 2018 and look forward to Prime Minister Abe
and hundreds of delegates from Japan visiting our country for APEC this year and throughout 2018.

"Japan and Papua New Guinea continue to work very closely together in a number of global forums,
this includes APEC but also organisations such as the United Nations.

"Together we support initiatives for peace and poverty alleviation around the world,
the protection of biodiversity and dealing with the damage caused by climate change."
