今月11日、パプアニューギニアをマグニチュード7.6の地震がおそいました。
監視カメラは激しく揺れ、建物の中にいた人々は一斉に外へ逃げ出すと、その場で立ち尽くしていました。
スーパーマーケットの商品は、棚から崩れ落ち、床一面に散乱。オフィスの天井は、抜け落ちてしまいました。
被害は、建物の中だけではなく、地面には亀裂が。広範囲に広がっています。
パプアニューギニアは地震が頻発している地域で、ロイター通信によると、
これまでに少なくとも4人が死亡したということです。

PRIME Minister James Marape will attend other engagements overseas
after Queen Elizabeth’s funeral on Monday,
including the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
“I will be attending the UNGA to deliver the country statement on Sept 23,”
he said before leaving for London yesterday.
“I will basically shed light on some of the country’s implementation
of the sustainable development goals to date, climate change,
challenges of mitigating the Covid-19, and economic recovery.”
From New York, he will meet with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for
bilateral talks in Brisbane on Sept 25.
Then the two prime ministers will travel in a Royal Australian Air Force aircraft
to Tokyo, Japan, to witness the funeral of former prime minister Shinzo Abe.
Marape said Abe had a close relationship with PNG.
“During his tenure as Prime Minister, (Abe) ensured that
Japan provided development assistance to PNG,” he said.
“This included the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) funding of development projects
such as the rehabilitation of Nadzab (Morobe) and Tokua (East New Britain) airports.”
Then Marape will visit Washington DC to attend the US-Pacific Islands Countries Leaders’ summit
with President Joe Biden from Sept 28 and 29.
He said he would raise issues on the economy, trade and investment.
